A Statement from our CEO, Denise Durham Williams: Dear Friends, I write this message with a heavy heart. Over the past several months we all witnessed and experienced troubling times with COVID-19, leaving us with socioeconomic disruption and loss of loved ones, with communities of color having been disproportionately impacted by this health crisis. Unfortunately, COVID-19 revealed inequities in our health care system, lack of access to nutritious food, the loss of income, jobs, and economic opportunities during this crisis. How much more could our communities, especially communities of color, endure? Then, we as a nation witnessed a moment of true reckoning. We as a nation have been experiencing a very painful moment in our history given the inhumane death of George Floyd, which perpetuates an ongoing cycle of senseless violence and racism towards people of color. For too long, we have lived with unjust policies that put members of our society at grave risk economically, educationally, spiritually, and physically. Breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty cannot happen without also dismantling the systemic oppression and racism that all people of color face in Stamford, in the State of Connecticut, and in the United States. Our work at Inspirica must be culturally and race-sensitive, striving for equity for all. We at Inspirica stand in solidarity with all those who are fighting for justice through equity and inclusion.
