OVERVIEW                                                                                                                     Inspirica is one of the largest organizations serving the homeless in Connecticut. We provide emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing and affordable housing to 600 adults and children in lower Fairfield County each year. We further provide critical support services such as children services, education, counseling, employment support and access to a vast of array of other services such as health care, substance abuse treatment, mental health care etc. In addition to being homeless, the people we serve typically suffer from mental illness, substance abuse and/or HIV/AIDS. Many also have severe cognitive impairments, a history of incarceration, little or no work history, and little education. All of our participants live at or below the poverty level.

Our mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by helping people achieve – and maintain – permanent housing and stability in their lives.

Our principles are to be a results oriented, cost-effective organization with a caring professional staff and dedicated volunteers who believe in individual human potential, personal accountability and mutual respect.
The Employment Services Associate is responsible for helping Inspirica clients find competitive jobs. He/she will achieve this goal by developing and working with an extensive network of employers, searching multiple job databases, and working with clients on an individual basis to develop customized job-search plans that result in employment.

Housing subsidies for people who are homeless are in short supply. The waiting lists for Section 8 or Shelter Plus Care vouchers are often many years long. Most people who are homeless will not receive them. Unfortunately, the people we serve typically do not have the education or skills they need to become self-sufficient. Without our help, they are unlikely to secure employment, which, in turn, allows them to earn the income they need to move into the community and become productive members of society.
The goal of our Jumpstart Education and Employment Program is to provide participants with life- and work-skills they need to: a) prepare for, find, and maintain employment; and, b) lead independent, healthy/stable lives – both of which are essential to breaking the cycle of homelessness.
