Paid Stipend

Inspirica is one of the largest organizations serving the homeless in Connecticut. We provide emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing and affordable housing to approximately 850 adults and children in lower Fairfield County each year. We further provide critical support services such as children’s services, vocational training, workforce education, job placement, job/housing retention services, and counseling as well as access to health care, substance abuse treatment, mental health care etc. In addition to being homeless, the people we serve typically suffer from mental illness, substance abuse and/or HIV/AIDS. Many also have severe cognitive impairments, a history of incarceration, little or no work history, and little education. All of our participants live at or below the poverty level.

Our mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by helping people achieve – and maintain – permanent housing and stability in their lives. Our principles are to be a results oriented, cost-effective organization with a caring professional staff and dedicated volunteers who believe in individual human potential, personal accountability and mutual respect.

A quick-learner with excellent communication skills is needed to help coordinate logistics for a signature event of Inspirica: a Stamford-based non-profit organization dedicated to elevating children and their families out of homelessness. Inspirica’s annual Holiday Gift Collection has provided holiday gifts to children affected by poverty and/or HIV/AIDS in Fairfield County for the past 27 years. This year we anticipate collecting 6,000 gifts for 3,000 children in our community!

This internship will focus on non-profit management skills, logistics, volunteer coordination, gift-processing, and event-planning.

Candidate must be working toward a college degree, have a positive attitude, leadership ability, strong organizational skills, exceptional phone etiquette, and un-tiring work ethic. A team player is essential to have a successful program.

Hours will be part-time through the duration of the internship. Hours of work will begin at 10 hours per week and will increase as the collection nears the busy season. Interns must be flexible, willing to work a few evenings and two Saturdays in December (9th and 16th). Hours are flexible to work with your school schedule outside of certain important event-related dates, however candidate must know their schedule prior to starting the position.
This is an excellent learning opportunity for individuals looking to start a career or gain experience in the non-profit industry, marketing, PR and/or event-planning.
