OVERVIEW
Inspirica is one of the largest organizations serving homeless people in Connecticut. We serve more than 700 men, women and children each year. In addition to being homeless, the people we serve typically suffer from mental illness, substance abuse and/or HIV/AIDS. Many further have severe cognitive impairments, a history of incarceration, little or no work history, and little or no education. All of our participants live at or below poverty level.

We are one of the few organizations nationally that combines residential services and support services on an end-to-end integrated platform. Our residential services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and deeply affordable housing. Our support services include vocational training, workforce education, job placement, housing placement, job & housing retention support and children’s services.

Our mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by helping people achieve – and maintain – permanent housing and stability in their lives.

POSITION
A quick-learner with excellent communication skill is needed to help coordinate logistics for a signature event of Inspirica: a Stamford-based non-profit organization dedicated to elevating children and their families out of homelessness.                                                                                                    

Inspirica’s annual Holiday Gift Collection has provided holiday gifts to children                       affected by poverty and/or HIV/AIDS in Fairfield County for the past 26 years. This year we anticipate collecting 6,000 gifts for 2,500 children in our community!


This internship will focus on non-profit management skills, logistics, volunteer coordination, gift-processing, and event-planning.
Candidate must be working toward a college degree, have a positive attitude, leadership ability, strong organizational skills, exceptional phone etiquette, and un-tiring work ethic. A team player is essential to have a successful program.
 
The HGC intern will be paid a stipend at the completion of the season. Hours will be part-time through the duration of the internship. Hours of work will begin at 10 hours per week and will increase as the collection nears the busy season. Interns must be flexible, willing to work a few evenings and two Saturdays in December (5th and 12th). Hours are flexible to work with your school schedule outside of certain important event-related dates.


This is an excellent learning opportunity for individuals looking to start a career or gain experience in the non-profit industry, marketing, PR and/or event-planning.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the planning and execution of a fun, cheerful and exciting Holiday Gift Collection Wrapping Party

  • Respond promptly to donor and sponsor phone calls and e-mails

  • Keep meticulous track of children’s wish card requests

  • Assist in the maintenance of Microsoft office and excel spreadsheets

  • Train and support volunteers in the various areas of operations of the Holiday Gift Collection including sorting toys, checking in gifts and wrapping gifts

  • Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate volunteer/supervisory mix

  • Update Inspirica’s social media page with relevant HGC happenings

  • Coordinate pickups and drop offs of yellow toy collection boxes to businesses/groups

  • Serve as an ambassador for the Holiday Gift Collection and Inspirica Inc.
