Inspirica is the largest provider of services to the homeless in Connecticut. Each night we house approximately 350 people (1,050 per year, including 250 children) in 11 facilities. We are one of only a handful of organizations (10-15) in the nation that is able to address the physical aspect of homelessness (residential services) and its underlying causes (support services) on a single, comprehensive, end-to-end platform – a powerful, integrated “one-stop-shop.”
Our residential services cover the spectrum of housing: emergency shelters, transitional housing, deeply affordable housing, permanent supportive housing, and rapid rehousing. Our support services are similarly comprehensive and include: vocational training; workforce education; job placement; housing placement; job & housing retention support; early childhood & parenting services; children's services (including an after-school program); health care, counseling, case management, and much more. We further provide direct access to mental health care, psychiatric care, dental care, substance abuse treatment, etc. through a network of strategic partnerships. Our ability to address both the physical aspect of homelessness and its underlying root causes on a single, powerful, end-to-end platform eliminates gaps in services, allows programs to leverage each other, and exponentially increases our clients’ success rates.

A quick learner with excellent communication skills is needed to help coordinate logistics for one of our signature events: our Holiday Gift Collection. Each year, we collect 6,000 gifts for nearly 3,000 children affected by poverty and/or HIV/AIDS in greater Fairfield County, delivering holiday cheer to children in need. This internship will focus on non-profit management skills, logistics, volunteer coordination, gift-processing, and event-planning. In short, the intern will get a bird’s eye view of what it takes to run a large-scale non-profit event and play a critical role in its success.
Candidate must have a can-do attitude, strong organizational skills, exceptional phone etiquette, and unrelenting work ethic. Being a team player is essential. The intern will be paid a stipend of $1,500 at the completion of the season. Two interns will be hired.
Hours will be part-time through the duration of the internship and begin at 10 hours per week, increasing as the collection nears the busy season. Interns must be flexible, willing to work a few evenings and one Saturday in December (12/14). Hours are flexible to work with your school schedule outside of certain important event-related dates.
This is an excellent learning opportunity for individuals looking to start a career or gain experience in the non-profit industry, marketing, PR, and/or event planning.
Duties & Responsibilities Include:
Assist in the planning and execution of a fun, cheerful and exciting Holiday Gift Collection Wrapping Party
Respond promptly to donor and sponsor phone calls and e-mails
Keep meticulous track of children’s wish card requests
Assist in the maintenance of Microsoft Office and Excel spreadsheets
Train and support volunteers in the various areas of operations of the Holiday Gift Collection including sorting toys, checking in gifts, and wrapping gifts
Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate volunteer/supervisory mix
Coordinate pickups and drop offs of toy collection boxes to businesses in Fairfield County
Serve as an ambassador for the Holiday Gift Collection and Inspirica, Inc.
