Manager of Communications and Special Events

Inspirica’s mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by helping people achieve – and maintain – permanent housing and stability in their lives. We are one the largest providers of services to the homeless in Connecticut. Each night, we house 350 people (1,050+ per year, including 250 children). Our residential facilities include emergency shelters, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, deeply affordable housing and rapid rehousing.  We serve individuals across the spectrum of the homeless, including single men, single women, families, people with mental illness, and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Inspirica is one of only a few organizations nationally that is able to address both the physical component of homelessness (residential services) and its underlying root causes (support services) on a single, powerful, end-to-end platform. In addition to housing, we provide vocational training, workforce education, job placement, housing placement, job & housing retention support, children's services, early childhood & parenting services, case management etc. We further collaborate with a vast array of external partners to provide medical/dental care, mental health care, substance abuse treatment etc.

Position Overview

The Manager of Communications and Special Events reports to the Director of Development. Working closely with the Director of Development and the fun Development staff, the Manager is responsible for media relations, social media/website and event planning.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Event Management:

  • Plan special events including at least four annual events: Spring Soiree; Walk-a-Thon; Thanksgiving Giveaway; and; Holiday Gift Collection. This includes developing all event collateral, (including invitations, sponsorship packages and event programs) as well as coordinating and managing all event logistics.


  • Work with the development team and program staff to generate publicity and media coverage that advance Inspirica’s mission, programs, events, accomplishments/results etc.  This includes:
    • Increasing Inspirica’s outreach to the community through all forms of media, including social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube), print media, radio, television and other avenues.

    • Enhancing and maintaining Inspirica’s website.

    • Writing news releases, op-eds, letters to the editors, and feature stories.

    • Writing e-newsletters, annual reports, year-end reports etc. for donors.

    • Developing marketing material such as presentations, brochures etc.

    • Creating, and distributing print and electronic communications including through Constant Contact.

    • Ensuring the use of consistent design standards, messages, and terminology across
      organization’s communications and maintain in-house policies related to branding and communication.


Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to write compelling and newsworthy stories, articles, and other necessary content.

  • Experience with website maintenance and electronic newsletter development.

  • Advanced experience generating content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube etc., including ability to track and measure metrics related to their usage.

  • Excellent oral communication skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Excel and website software (preferably Square Space).

  •  Excellent organization and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • High-spirited with lots of energy.

  • Ability to be flexible and handle multiple priorities under tight time constraints.

  • Bachelor’s degree required
